5 SIMPLE TIPS FOR CARING FOR NAILS FOR HEALTHY AND SHINY
Doing regular nail care can make your nails healthy and give them a shiny appearance. However, you don't need to worry if you have to do it complicated.
To get healthy and shiny nails, there are a few simple treatments you can do. D'Anne M. Kleinsmith, MD, a dermatologist from William Beaumont Hospital, Michigan, provides tips for what you can do:
1. Consuming biotin
As long as you eat a healthy and varied diet, you don't need any dietary supplements to get strong nails. But, says Dr. Kleinsmith, people with weak nails can benefit from extra biotin, which is a B vitamin. Biotin has been shown to help strengthen and grow our nails.
2. Keep the cuticles moist
As part of routine maintenance for maintaining healthy nails, Dr. Kleinsmith suggests moisturizing the cuticles. Watch for signs of infection, including redness, pain, swelling, and even pus in the cuticles and surrounding skin. See a doctor for help dealing with any infection.
3. Routinely cut nails
"The fashion trend is to have nails that are neat, more natural-looking, shorter, and nails that are not too long. Regular nail clipping helps maintain healthy nails and helps avoid snagging or breaking," says Dr. Kleinsmith.
How often you trim depends on how fast your nails will grow. Use a fine file to smooth the edges of the nails. As part of the manicure treatment, you can also gently scrub the surface of your nails, especially if they tend to be jagged.
4. Using gloves
Frequently immersing your hands in soapy water to wash dishes can weaken even strong nails. To protect nails, especially when using nail polish, it is advisable to use gloves to protect your hands while rubbing.
5. Watch for infections that occur
If you see signs of infection, ask your doctor about getting the nail care needed. Yeast infection can get better with over-the-counter antifungal treatments, but sometimes it requires prescription medication and for optimal nail care, seek medical help when healthy nails are at risk.
