Don't Do These 5 Things If You Don't Want Knee Pain!

As we age, the muscles around the elastic cartilage that act as shock absorbers in joints become stiff, lose their elasticity and become more susceptible to injury and strain. Knee pain is commonly experienced by older adults.

However, if this problem starts to bother you from an early age, then the cause could be due to bad lifestyle habits. This includes not moving much and posture when sitting or standing.

As reported by the Times of India, here are five awkward positions to avoid in order to keep your knees healthy:

1. Sit with your legs crossed

Gradual knee pain is mostly caused by sitting with your legs crossed. Both men and women who have the habit of sitting in a bent position over their legs complain of knee pain.

Apparently crossing your legs puts extra stress on your knees. If you are already suffering from knee problems, sitting in this particular pose for long periods of time can make the condition worse.

2. Lock your knees

When standing, most people have the habit of locking their knees and standing straight. If you want to keep your knee healthy and avoid complications, stop immediately.

Locking your knee bones puts pressure on the cartilage and puts unnecessary stress on the ligaments. This makes the ligaments stretch and sprain, which naturally causes knee pain.

It's best to stand up naturally and keep your knees relaxed at all times. Your knees should be slightly bent so that the muscles around the knee provide stability and support.

3. Avoid kneeling for long periods

Kneeling for long periods of time can put pressure on your joints, ligaments, and muscles. If you kneel on a hard surface, the pressure on the cartilage and bones around your knee increases.

Try to avoid this position for a long time. If you suffer from knee problems or arthritis, you should specifically avoid this pose.

4. Wearing worn shoes

Yes, even the shoes you wear can contribute to knee pain. Wearing shoes that are worn or uncomfortable can cause imbalance and put pressure on your joints.

This can easily lead to joint pain and muscle tension. Even the regular use of high heels can be the cause of your knee problems. Instead, wear comfortable and soft footwear that can support your knees and ankles.

5. Using the wrong chair to sit

If you are someone who has to sit in the same position for a long time while working then make sure the chair you are sitting on is comfortable and the height is correct.

Sitting on furniture that is too high or low can actually add to your suffering and make your knee pain worse. Holding your body in an awkward position for long periods of time makes it more difficult for your knees to maintain balance and stability.
